Figure Skating

Our Mission:

The Susquehanna Valley Figure Skating Club aims to provide a fun and organized Learn to Skate program where students’ love of the ice is encouraged and celebrated, where it is a safe space for all to grow in skill and confidence while being able to express themselves freely.

Our Goals:

While reviewing our goals for our students, staff, and club we determined that a restructure of our Learn to Skate program is necessary. Our goals for our students/their families are to: -Provide more consistent instruction. -Narrow our coach to student ratio. -Provide higher quality coaching. -Offer some flexibility with available class times. Schedules can be hectic, so flexibility for families is important to us. Student progress is also important to us. We want that progress to be measurable, giving our students goals to strive for and something to be proud of. The skills practiced in our program can be carried over to other skating programs or even other parts of our students’ lives, school, work, extra curriculars, etc. Our volunteer staff has a passion for the sport, contributing their own time and effort to help your children develop their skating ability. This restructure will help our dedicated coaches with their yearly clearance fees. This restructure will help our club gain momentum in the skating community while providing an outlet for our staff and students of all ages. We understand that change can be difficult for all involved but have high hopes for our restructure. We thank you in advance for your support and cooperation as we work toward a more cohesive program for all. All things start small and thanks to the Learn to Skate program, our club is growing!

Our Restructure:

The restructure will offer two time slots for Snowplow Sam thru Basic 6. Registrants can choose to sign up for one (4:30 or 5:15) or both time slots. We will offer a Freestyle Plus class at 6pm as an add-on class that is only eligible to skaters in Basic 5 or Basic 6. Each class will be capped with a limit of 15 students per class, per time slot. There will be an emphasis on skill terminology and foundational skills. We are also introducing report cards, which means all students will have their progress measured on Week 9. They will receive their report card on Week 10, so they have record of their progress for the season. The season will end on Week 10 with pizza and a free skate as a celebration of our students’ success. Please read the registration form for more details outlining this restructure.
